American Woman
*Not Updated, Removed something that could have been misunderstood*
The Lenny Kravitz post made me think of this.
I'm sorry, but I think this is funny. Lenny, in all his glory, singing American Woman in front of a huge flag. Wow, so patriotic.
Now listen to the lyrics.
American Woman was written by a Canadian, Burton Cummings from the Guess Who. The song was improvised on stage, later developed, and released on a 1970's album of the same name.
Its not exactly an Anthem.

Post a CommentHa ha ha, I never really thought about this. I guess he's interpreting the song differently, since it was for Austin Powers. I always thought the huge flag in this video was kinda weird, though... Just not exactly Lenny Kravitz' style IMO.

Yeah, I was going to say....he remade it for Austin Powers and Heather Graham is even seen writhing away in the vid.
lol! I never noticed this before. Damn American propaganda... living here really blinds you. All these year's I've been singing along with the song and never paid attention to the lyrics... what a joke!
I sort of forgot the Austin Powers. I just remember watching Lenny sing this in front of a massive American flag and thinking wtf?
Rockin in the Free World, by Neil Young was grossly misused once and I can't remember in what.
You know, the really funny thing is that if most Americans "got" what the song was about, he could never have reinterpreted it this way. Most Americans hum along and are totally convinced it's about a woman.
I love confusion.
