Departures
I have been planning on blogging about something, and Earth Day seemed like a good time.
Scott Wilson and Justin Lukach
I want to promote a show I enjoy called “Departures”. In its simplest form, you get to share the adventures of two guys travelling around the world together.
But it is so much more than that!
Petra
The more I watch it, the more I love this show.
A lot of credit for that goes to Justin Lukach and Scott Wilson, two adorable travelers, who compliment and balance each other.
They let you along for a great ride, they are honest and raw when sharing how they feel about their experiences.
Episodes take you on an emotional journey. You can feel happy, amazed, saddened, anxious and scared all within one hour.
They try to meet with contacts, which often takes them not just to the tourist areas, but off the beaten path as well.
Similar shows seem aseptic in comparison to Departures.
As Director of Photography, Andre Dupuis deserves a medal for the images he captures. The photography is amazing! It is vivid, lush, and can be unforgiving. The wide, open scenery shots let you soak it all in, it is a wonderful way to see the world.
Viewers are given a treat every so often when Andre peeks around the other side of the camera too.
I highly recommend Departures. The following is the opening for the show:
The first episodes are available on dvd and you can check out more photos on Facebook:

Check it out and Enjoy!

That looks really good.
My mom went to Cambodia on a mission trip.
Oh man.. that brings back memories, I stood in that same spot in Petra! So beautiful.
This show sounds good!!
It sounds very interesting. Petra should be a wonderful place karma!
I really want to see this show.
But, when I hit the
link it says, I have to sign up on FB. Does anyone know how to do that...and not really be on FB? (I hope that makes sense.)
I'll look out for it.
BB, here's the link you get from Facebook:

It doesn't seem to have episodes, though.
I looked for it on Netflix and couldn't find it. Maybe it will air here on the National Geographic channel?
Karma...You were there?! At Petra?! That is too cool! I think Petra was one of my favourite locations. I was blown away. Unfortunately Justin didn't feel good, so Scott exploreed himself, so the eppy just wasn't the same, but very cool place.
Thats too bad. Its really catching on, so
maybe it will be eventually.
Coco, that is cool about your Mom. I really understand how people are so taken with Cambodia and the people there after seeing the episode. They met a group of guys who didn't even know how old they were, because they didn't know their birthday. Scott and Justin bought a cake and had a party for them (they all got really drunk, and it was pretty funny, one of them said he "had heard of a birthday cake, but never seen one". The dude had never had cake, or a birthday celebration!!!
I was really hoping it might be available on Netflix.

wren, thanks for the heads-up.
Jinx, I'll definitely continue to keep my eyes open for it.
Jinx we went there on vacation when we lived in Israel.. it was awesome! The only freaky part was when this dude tried to buy my sister
Haha no joke! She was tiny & he said her bright blue eyes were very rare & treasured.. he asked my parents if he could buy her
Wow
OMG karma!
I never knew Petra existed until the show.
When they walked through the rocks and
saw the solid rock building, it was spectacular.

That show looks pretty cool. And Jordan might be the less dangerous place in that area. I'd love to visit some time.
Hey, I will! why not?
Not only does this show open my eyes to the very world I live in, but it also inspires me to challenge myself and delve into unknown territory as well. What I love most about it is the fact it never ceases to surprise. So I guess, it is predictable in the sense that it is...predictably unpredictable.
