I've always been in awe of the Northern Lights. Aurora Borealis is a natural light show.
The following are pictures of the Northern Lights seen over Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, in Canada.

They are usually green in colour, but can be a red hue as well.

I still haven't seen them even though they are supposed to be pretty common in these here parts. Must be because my azz in usually sitting in front of this computer.

I've only seen a bit of them, up north at my Moms. Nothing like this though! It wasn't all freaky like this, more of just a glow.
I don't know if they go all night, good question. Since its caused by charged particles and the wind affects on them, I assume they are there during daylight, but not visible?
