Since The Topic Came Up...
Marc Emery is a “legalization of marijuana advocate”. Currently, he is the publisher of Cannibis Culture magazine, and the leader of the British Columbia Marijuana Party.
He has a list of arrests in his quest for his cause. He used to have a “head shop” in London Ontario, but the young man went West. Must have been the lure of BC Bud.
He created a website for his cannibis culture magazine that includes a store. It sells tshirts, wristbands, rolling papers, etc, and seeds.
He sold seeds through the store and shipped them to some customers, I assume were adults, residing in the United States.
Eventually, the United States DEA came a’knockin. They requested the arrest of Marc Emery. The Canadian government arranged a raid on the BC Marijuana Party Bookstore and Headquarters.
(Sorry, that makes me laugh)
They also arrested the Prince of Pot, appropriately at a Hempfest in Nova Scotia.
The DEA now want Marc Emery extradited to the States, to face 10 years to life, for a crime that receives a $200 dollar fine in British Columbia, Canada. His extradition hearing was set for January 21st, 2008. That hearing was adjourned, "in order to continue negotiations for a possible plea deal agreement between the United States, Canada, and Marc Emery".
Mr. Emery and two others will return to court on Wednesday, February 6th to reschedule an extradition hearing if needed.
This wouldn't piss me off so much, except I think both our governments have bigger things to worry about.
That, and recently, a man from St. Thomas, near London, Ontario, who cannot be named as to protect the innocent, was arrested for sexually abusing his pre school aged daughter in live time, on the internet. An undercover police officer was watching, and they zeroed in on that bastard, and saved the little girl.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of making child porn, one count of possession of child porn, and one count of distribution of child porn.
Although the judge described the case “gross and sickening”, and “the biggest breach of trust”, our Daddy Dearest received a four year prison sentence!
And it seems he is looking at twenty months, because of time served.
When I hear of such injustices, I have to wonder what is wrong with our world, and where our priorities are.
It's unbelievable that our government is going to allow a man, who abused his daughter for profit, free in 4 years (if you pretend he will serve the entire sentence), but waste their time and money extraditing a dude who smokes pot.
No matter how you feel about marijuana use and legalization, I figure most people would rather have a neighbour that smokes weed, than a neighbour thats a pedophile.
No matter where you are from, if you want to stop the insanity, take the time for this online petition to prevent the extradition of Marc Emery and two others, known as the BC3.

True dat, Jinxy!
I agree totally with and esp with, "... I think both our governments have bigger things to worry about. " I saw the poll but by the time I wanted to comment it was knee deep in comments.
Did you ever see (I think) the Saturday night live where they talk about the "pipe" and "...the pipe is illegal man because the pipe promotes peace and peace ain't profitable?" It was classic.
My brother smoked pot, my ex husband smoked pot and a really good friend smoked it. I personally don't smoke it, but judging from this who do you think I would rather live by? Yes I totally agree I think the pedophile is a bigger threat to our society. The US should not be wasting the tax payers money on trying to extradite this guy.
Damn, those are some mixed up priorities!
Yeah, I don't know how much politics gets in the way either. I think they should tell the DEA to back off, you know, tell them to chill and smoke a doobie!
But of course we want to co operate. I just wondered what others thought.

What GirlC said, the US government has such a problem with it because they can't profit from the sale of it.
There are SUCH bigger problems to deal with in this country that should be dealt with.
'Cannibis Culture magazine, and the leader of the British Columbia Marijuana Party'
I love it
More and more it seems like Justice is not fair anymore. The priorities of our Government are completely screwed up and we just take it time after time.

I love how outrageously stoned he looks in that pic.
EW! I can't believe you ADMITTED that!
It was too horrible to keep all bottled up.
Oh karma, it will be okay!
What an awful dream!
Lindz, I tried to use a respectable picture of Mr. Emery!
You think he looks that stoned?!

I just don't think he deserves 10 years to life for his crime, and I kind of doubted American citizens really want to house this guy in their jails.
And thinking about it, it gets funnier that we have a Marijuana party in BC, its not like the stuff is legal here either.
The Dad, "I vote we shank him in the yard!"

"The years, No doubt, Have changed me"
I call that a nightmare.
Oh I'm with you on that one Jinx.. soo with yoU
Oh and I absolutely did not dream about Dubya last night. I don't remember any of my dreams except that right before I woke up I was in some giant stationary store searching for a diary and not liking anything I found and then some chick was talking about where she buys
and I started to say DUDE
GET ME SOME but then my mom was behind me and I choked on my words and shut up
So much better than Bush dreams
I had Harry Potter dreams again. Not scandelous Daniel Radcliff (
) dreams, but I read some
of Book 5 before I fell asleep. So maybe they were more like Hogwarts dreams
LOL!
Aww Sas with a wand, riding a broom!

"The years, No doubt, Have changed me"
Harry Potter dreams hahahah awesome 8)
I had a dream that I was saving the new king from Shrek 3 (watched it last night before bed), but we were in a modern hospital, and I was pushing him around on a stretcher while dodging bullets.
Shrek dreams! Hahahah boooo yaaaa
LMAO!! Y'all have some REALLY funky dreams! Too scary for me!!!
Jinx, I totally agree with you here. I'm American, and I think it is absolutely ridiculous that the DEA is going to this extreme to spend my tax money to extradite this guy for selling some marijuana seeds. There was an article in Newsweek magazine a few years back that stated according to a national pole, greater than 70% of Americans smoke marijuana at least occasionally. I don't smoke it, but most of the people I know do. Also, my mom retired from the police department, and she can tell you that most of the police officers who enforce these laws don't agree with it either. Most of them would prefer it to be legalized. They think it's ridiculous that our jails are full of people with misdemeanor drug offenses, and those commiting felonies are paroled early so that room can be made for more pot smokers. It just doesn't make any sense. Ever since Daddy Bush's "Zero Tolerance" law was enacted, the type of injustices you mentioned have increased. I don't know what the answer is, but there has got to be a better way!
Ewwwww my mom just told me that my dad has to go out to the airport tonight to personally greet Condie when she flies in.
Now that's someone else who most definitely dreams of Bush.
Seriously.
action in overdrive.
Although I'm not a Condi fan, that is seriously impressive, is it not, karma?
@ Twinkle!

Aw, even if you don't agree with her politics, you have to at least admit she's an impressively intelligent and accomplished woman. Doncha? 8)
True dat, Jen.
Also, I don't think she's the devil like Hillary.
